The original DWC floating raft from Meteor Systems — the food-safe HDPE raft board for Deep Water Culture (DWC) in hydroponics and aquaponics. Trusted for years in professional vegetable and herb growing, built for durable, hygienic and reliable plant production.

Food-Safe HDPE for Maximum Hygiene and Durability

Unlike conventional EPS foam rafts, this floating raft is made from high-grade, food-safe HDPE (High Density Polyethylene). The smooth, closed surface doesn't absorb water, is especially easy to clean, and reduces algae and residue build-up. The material is also extremely robust, dimensionally stable and built for continuous use in hydroponic and aquaponic systems.

With a lifespan of up to 10 years, the original Meteor Systems floating raft suits both dedicated hobby growers and professional vegetable and herb production.

Perfectly Matched to 25 × 25 mm Rockwool Plugs

The 12 tapered planting holes are designed specifically for 25 × 25 mm rockwool grow cubes. Our rockwool grow cubes (25 × 25 × 40 mm) sit securely in the floating raft, letting you transplant seedlings directly — no net cups or extra adapters needed.

Technical Details

  • Dimensions: 1200 × 400 × 50 mm
  • Material: Food-safe HDPE (High Density Polyethylene)
  • Colour: White
  • Planting holes: 12, symmetrically arranged, tapered (Ø approx. 25 mm top / Ø 20 mm bottom)
  • Fits: Rockwool plugs 25 × 25 mm
  • Use: Deep Water Culture (DWC), hydroponics and aquaponics, indoor and outdoor

Which plugs fit the holes?
Standard grow plugs (e.g. rockwool) about 25 × 25 mm wide and 40 mm deep — the tapered hole shape (25 mm top, 20 mm bottom) holds them securely in place. You can get matching rockwool grow cubes directly from us.

How many plants fit on one raft?
12 plants per raft, arranged symmetrically in both length and width.

How far apart are the holes on the floating raft?
The holes sit on a 20 cm grid. Each edge leaves a 10 cm margin — when you dock another raft alongside, the two 10 cm margins combine to form another 20 cm gap, so the grid stays consistent across multiple rafts.

Which plants is the raft suited for?
Mainly leafy greens and herbs — lettuce, basil, mint and similar crops grow especially fast and reliably in DWC systems. In our own growing trials, the raft has also worked well for heavier fruiting vegetables like tomatoes, peppers or zucchini — this needs extra support, e.g. strings rigged above the tank to train the plants upward.

Which plants is this raft, or DWC in general, less suited for?
Root and tuber crops such as radishes or potatoes, as well as brassicas like kohlrabi, aren't suitable, since they need a solid growing medium to form tubers or heads.

How durable is the material?
HDPE instead of foam — according to the manufacturer, 7–10 years lifespan under intensive use. No crumbling, lower algae risk thanks to the smooth surface.
