Looking to buy an aquaponics system for home that is easy to operate, energy-efficient, and compact enough for a balcony, patio, or backyard?

The Cycle Garden BASIC 2X complete aquaponics system is designed for anyone who wants to practice aquaponics at home — growing fresh vegetables while raising fish in a natural, balanced ecosystem. No daily watering, no soil, no weeds, and no synthetic fertilizers. The system works as a closed-loop cycle that largely regulates itself.

Compact Aquaponics System – Perfect for Backyard, Patio or Balcony

With over 1 m² (10+ sq ft) of grow space and a 300-liter (approx. 80-gallon) fish tank, this small aquaponics system provides ample room for herbs, leafy greens, vegetables, and ornamental or edible fish. Thanks to its compact footprint, it is ideal for:

  • Backyards
  • Patios and terraces
  • Balconies
  • Garages
  • Small gardens

Compared to traditional raised beds, this closed-loop aquaponics system uses up to 90% less water, making it a highly sustainable and resource-efficient solution.

Why Choose a Complete Aquaponics System Instead of DIY?

Building a DIY aquaponics setup can be rewarding — but it often involves technical challenges, trial and error, and significant planning time. This complete aquaponics kit allows you to start quickly and confidently.

The Cycle Garden BASIC 2X is a pre-configured aquaponics system developed for beginners while still offering flexibility for experienced users. Its modular design allows you to expand the system as your needs grow.

Energy-Efficient Aquaponics – Only 10W Power Consumption

The system operates with a highly efficient 10W aquaponics pump. The integrated bell siphon ensures automatic flood-and-drain cycles purely through gravity. This provides regular oxygenation of the water without the need for additional air pumps.

  • Energy-efficient
  • Low maintenance
  • Cost-effective to operate

Thanks to its low power consumption, the ongoing operating costs of this backyard aquaponics system remain minimal.

Durable, Weather-Resistant Materials

The elegant construction made from robust, weather-resistant larch wood combines functionality with natural aesthetics. Designed for long-term outdoor use, the system integrates harmoniously into gardens, patios, or balconies.

Simple Installation – Ideal for Beginners

The pre-configured kit includes all essential components along with detailed assembly instructions. Even without prior experience, you can set up your aquaponics grow system within half a day.

Who Is This Aquaponics System For?

  • Beginners in aquaponics
  • Schools and educational institutions
  • Urban gardeners
  • Home growers with limited space
  • Anyone looking for a sustainable food-growing solution

What plants and fish can I grow in this aquaponics system?
This aquaponics system is ideal for herbs, leafy greens and vegetables such as peppers, tomatoes, cucumbers and zucchini. Depending on water temperature and stocking density, you can keep ornamental fish like goldfish or koi, as well as edible fish such as tilapia.

How many fish can I stock, and can this system provide full self-sufficiency?
With a 300-liter (approx. 80-gallon) fish tank, this is a compact aquaponics system. While it is not designed as a complete self-sufficiency solution, it offers an excellent starting point for learning and producing fresh food at home. For tilapia with a target weight of around 500 g (1 lb), approximately 15–20 fish can be stocked. A total biomass of about 5 kg (11 lbs) is generally considered stable. Since fish grow at different rates, slightly higher initial stocking may be possible.

Is assembly complicated?
No. The complete aquaponics system comes pre-configured and is straightforward to assemble. Detailed assembly instructions are included. In most cases, the system can be fully set up within half a day.

What should I consider when starting and operating the system?
After filling the grow beds with grow media (such as expanded clay), the system needs to begin the cycling process. During this phase, beneficial bacteria establish themselves and create a stable biological balance. After approximately 1–2 weeks, fish and plants can be introduced.

Can the aquaponics system remain outdoors during winter?
Yes, the structure is weather-resistant. However, during freezing conditions, the pump should be removed and the standpipe taken out of the grow beds to prevent water from remaining inside and causing frost damage.

Can I install the system on soil or solid surfaces?
Yes. You can choose between soil installation (including ground anchors) or installation on solid surfaces such as concrete or paving stones (including mounting sleeves).

How much time does the system require on a daily basis?
Once the aquaponics system is biologically stable, maintenance is moderate. Fish need regular feeding, and plants should be monitored, harvested and occasionally replanted. Feeding can be automated using a fish feeder. Short absences are generally not a problem.

Can I expand the system later?
Yes. The BASIC 2X system features a modular design and can be expanded with additional grow beds or a larger fish tank. Alternatively, larger aquaponics systems are available.
