For natural biofiltration | One culture for up to 1000l grow bed volume
Bacteria and microorganisms are the first and most important component when starting up your aquaponics system. They maintain the natural balance, ensure the biological purification of the water and decompose any solid matter that accumulates. With this bacterial culture, you "cycle" (let the system run in) and stabilize your aquaponics system so that the cycle works properly.
Nitrobacter & Nitrosomonas for nitrification - The biological filter for your aquaponics system
The bacteria species Nitosomonas and Nitrobacter are responsible for what is known as nitrification. That is, for the conversion of accumulating ammonium (fish excrement) into the intermediate product nitrite ( Nitosomonas ) and for the subsequent oxidation of nitrite to nitrate ( Nitrobacter ). The end product nitrate is then absorbed by your plants as a nutrient.
Easy and quick application in your aquaponics system
Simply distribute the contents evenly in the grow bed under the water inlets. Depending on the temperature (>10°C), the bacteria will multiply to the right extent and keep your system intact. The bacteria adhere to the surface of the grow media (e.g.plant clay ) or carrier materials in the biofilter, as well as other material surfaces such as tanks or pipes.
How long does the cycling take?
After about 2 weeks, the system is "run in" and ready for the addition of fish and plants. At low temperatures, the spread is delayed. Below 5°C, the bacteria and microorganisms stop working.
