Our breeding starter colony contains approx. 2,000 live Black Soldier Fly larvae – perfect for building your own fly colony.
Breeding Starter Colony with approx. 2,000 Live Larvae
This starter colony is perfect for establishing your own Black Soldier Fly larvae breeding system. The larvae of the Black Soldier Fly (Hermetia illucens) process organic waste rapidly and produce valuable insect protein – ideal as animal feed. The nutrient-rich residual substrate can be optimally used as fertilizer for your vegetable plants.

How Your Black Soldier Fly Breeding Works
With this breeding starter colony, you can easily start breeding and raise hundreds of thousands of new larvae.
- Place the larvae into your OFERA BSFL Farm or into your self-built breeding box.
- Feed them with organic waste until they fully reach the adult stage (brown coloration).
- Transfer the mature or possibly already pupating larvae into an insect cage or allow them to hatch independently (e.g., in your self-built breeding box).
- Under optimal conditions (above 20°C, plenty of light, humidity above 70%), the first flies will hatch.
- After successful mating, each female lays 300–600 eggs – creating your own cycle with a new generation of larvae.
Tip: To establish a larger fly colony, you can easily combine multiple starter colonies.
